Minnesota Sea Grant Resources for Educators
This website showcases several Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) education resources developed by Minnesota Sea Grant. Most of them focus on the Great Lakes region. Educators looking for inspiration should see the "Community Stewardship Projects on Exotic Aquatic Species" booklet, which profiles outreach projects completed by students from a range of grades and subjects. "Aquatic Invasive Species: An Educator's Information and Materials Guide" is also a helpful publication.
Great Lakes Maritime Transportation Education
This website has many teaching tools, including activities, Lesson Plans, and an interactive web portal for grades K-12. The web portal animation of how locks work and the shipping glossary may be of particular interest. It was developed by the Great Lakes Maritime Research Institute (GLMRI).
This is a collection of fun, “whodunit” themed online activities for students in grades 4-6 and 7-10. It has colorful illustrations and includes quizzes, species profiles, and games. Students who pass quizzes on all 10 Aquatic Invaders can print out a “Book ’em Certificate.” Also includes several teacher resources on Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Produced by Sea Grant.
